Yamaha SG-5A
Yamaha's foray into the electric guitar production business began in 1966 when it burst on the scene with its crazy looking, amazing sounding SG series of guitars. The most popular of these was the SG-5 (renamed 5A from '68 onwards), nicknamed the Flying Samurai for its wild body shape and large hockey stick/samurai sword headstock. A truly unique silhouette that someone once described to me as 'like a what a Jaguar looks like if you're on acid'. I couldn't have said it better myself.
This guitar was way ahead of its time both aesthetically and electronically. The famous 'balancer' knob lets you wind back the front and back bobbin of the rear humbucker, giving you a huge variety of tones from what is in essence a 3 pickup guitar. It also has one of the most expressive and usual tremolo systems we've ever used.

Our old Yamaha is in great shape for a guitar of this vintage, a couple of age related marks are present but nothing unsightly.. The pots have been changed at some point (albeit at least 20 years ago). We've replaced the original foam under the pickups as the original had perished. We've also levelled and recrowned the frets. Set up with D'Addario 10's and ready to go!
